Taking a break from the carnival

With sadness I announce that I am going to take a break from posting the carnival. I have been running it for one whole year but it never did develop as I hoped it would. I know there are a lot of great Canadian homeschoolers out there and I was really hoping this carnival would bring them together. My goal was to develop this into a team effort but it's not happening at this time. If things change I may restart again in the future but for now, so long and happy homeschooling.

Quite possibly part of the problem is that I forgot to change the due date and the next edition information in the side bar. Sorry about that.

BTW, I am considering changing this to a team blog, if there is any interest in that happening. The carnival was much fuller when I was actively seeking submissions but I just don't have the time to do that right now. It might work better, however, if I could get a team to help me seek submissions. If you are at all interested in this idea, drop me a line or leave a comment and I'll tell you more about how I see it working.

In the meantime, hopefully we'll get some submissions for a regular edition next week. If all goes well the next regular edition will be posted Monday April 20th, with the deadline for submissions being Friday, April 17th. Now I have to remember to go change the information in the sidebar right away to reflect that. :)

I wish this had been a fuller trip but that is only possible if people submit invitations to visit. I love it when we have full trips with stops in all the provinces, but I have had to accept the fact that I just don't have the time to search out the posts to make it possible, so it's important to get the word out that people need to submit. I'd love to have people submitting invitations every week. With Molytail's move, it means we no longer have any representation from PEI in the carnival. I sure hope somebody fills in that space soon. I also hope that we start getting more invitations to visit.

To try to encourage more participation, I have decided to offer up a small participation prize each month. Every time someone submits an invitation to visit their name will be put in to be drawn for a prize. At the end of the month I will send a small envelope of a prize to the person drawn.

The next edition will be posted Monday, January 19th, but the deadline for submissions is Saturday, January 17th. Please help spread the word and hopefully I will be overrun with submissions. :)

Welcome to the first edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival for 2009! It's been a long time since our last edition. I was having some computer problems that made preparing the carnival extremely frustrating. Thanks to my mom and sister, however, I am now the owner of a new laptop and no longer have to endure the troubles my old computer inflicted on me. :) This week's edition is a few days late but things should be on track from here on in.

Welcome to the 27th edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival! Sorry to be so late in posting. It's been a busy day.

We're going to start this trip in British Columbia where we'll visit with Rosina as she shares with us some wonderful Leaf Embroidery her children did recently. Before we leave Rosina's she asks us to check out the HSN blog she looks after and read about the Grand Finale ~ Finish Celebrating BC's 150th Year With A Bang.

Next we're off to Alberta to visit with Pam as she tells us about a Magazine for and by homeschool kids :o) (Canadian). Sounds very interesting!

Before leaving Alberta we'll drop in on Lori as she tells us its time to Review, Regroup, Restart.

After skipping over a couple of provinces, our next stop is in Ontario to visit with Mama Squirrel as she says "There are libraries and then there are libraries."

Next we'll drop in on Tonia in Quebec as she shares a Curriculum Review: Get Ready, Get Set, Go for the Code.

After skipping over a few provinces again we come to our last stop for this trip, at my house in Newfoundland and Labrador as I tell you about a NaNoWriMo Page for Canadian Home Educators.

Life has been pretty crazy around my house lately and with NaNoWriMo about to start it promises to just get crazier. Welcome to the 26th edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival. It has been another crazy week at my house this week with no time to drum up extra visits to fill out the carnival. Fortunately we did have a few submissions this week so there will be a trip, but it will be a very short one. Let's get started!

We'll start this trip at my house in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador where I'll tell you about NaNoWriMo and point you to a post where you can learn more about their Young Writers Program. It really sounds neat!

Next we're off to Quebec to visit with Tonia as she shares Games for Long Vowel, Silent-E Words that she has created to help her little one with her reading. Great ideas!

After that we're off to Saskatchewan where we'll drop in on Julia as she tells us about their Math Day #3 and the fun they had learning about the Chinese abacus. Their math days sure sound like fun to me!

Next we're off to Alberta to visit with Pam as she says it's time to update and proceeds to tell us about all the things her family has been doing the last while. Sure sounds like they've been busy!

25th Edition

Welcome to the 25th edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival.

We'll start this trip in my home on the island portion of Newfoundland and Labrador as I give A salute to my firefighters! and also tell you to check out the HSN Newfoundland and Labrador blog for some resources to use for Fire Safety Week October 5-11, 2008 - Prevent Home Fires.

Unfortunately we didn't get any invitations to visit for Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, or New Brunswick this time around so we'll skip over those provinces and move on to the next.

In Quebec our first stop is for a first time visit with Shannon as she tells us about an article she read titled How I taught My Child to Read for Less Than $1 but what I really, really like is when she tells us about her family's blogs and how she's using blogging to encourage her children to write. She also provides links to her children's blogs.

Next we have another first time visit in Quebec with Idzie, a 17 year old unschooler, as she shares with us about how much she loves learning and is ready to take on life in a post titled Melancholy and beautiful books.

Before we leave Quebec, we'll pop in for a visit with Tonia as she tells us about A few of my Favorite Things which includes links to some great sites.

After crossing the border into Ontario, our first visit is with Phyllis as she shares her Week 5 School Report.

Before leaving Ontario we'll pop in on Heather as she tells us that the Group of Four spent some time doing fun learning with Newton and the Skateboard Park. I wish I had done something like this with one of my boys.

Unfortunately we didn't get any invitations to visit in Manitoba or Saskatchewan this time around so we'll pass on by those provinces.

Arriving in Alberta, we'll pop in to visit with Pam as she shares her report for Day 15.

After that, we'll head into British Columbia where our first visit is with Cheryl as she shares some great resources and tells us that Election Time = Opportunity to Teach Government.

Next, also in British Columbia, we'll drop in on Miranda as she tells us about wonderful Symphony treat they were privileged to enjoy recently.

Our last visit in British Columbia is with Rosina as she shows us the Unplugged Project ~ Fruit (Thanksgiving Turkeys) they made a little while back. She also invites us to check out her nature blog where she tells us about a FREE - Basic Bird Nature Study that is available for download from Currclick this week. I don't normally feature more than one post from a blog in an edition but I'm making an exception this time because I want to make sure you notice the - Think ~ Bridge Challenge they did this weekend. Very cool! Her son even made the Think! website because of his bridge, and there's still time for you to give it a try.

Welcome to the 24th edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival. Unfortunately we don't have a full trip this week. It has been a stressful week, dealing with a sick little one, among other things, so no time to look for submissions. Thank goodness we had a fair number of people submit posts this week. So, let's get started on the trip.

Unfortunately nobody in British Columbia submitted any posts this week so we have to skip that province and start the trip in the next province.

In Alberta we have a first time invitation to visit with Paige as she tells us about her plans for this year.

Before we leave Alberta we'll drop in and visit with Pam as she shares with us "Encouragement from my HS Facilitator", a post she wrote two years ago but that she still finds encouragement from.

Crossing over the border into Saskatchewan we'll pop in to visit with Julia as she tells us about the public library she enjoys and says Wonders Never Cease at the things she discovers there.

Unfortunately we don't have any invitations to visit in Manitoba this time around.

Next we'll stop in Ontario where our first visit is with Heather as she tells us about her family getting a Campaign Close-up recently when they were a part of a press conference with Stephen Harper.

Before we leave Ontario we'll drop in on Debbie as she shares with us some pictures, that she took on a hike recently, that really show the Fall Colors in her area.

Crossing the border into Quebec we'll drop in to visit Tonia as she shares her Goals for Kindergarten. She makes a very important statement about the importance of goals in there that nobody should miss so be sure to check it out.

Next we'll travel to New Brunswick and stop to visit Lorraine as she says, "It's KidPay Day" and proceeds to tell us about a great system she's worked out for teaching her children to be responsible with money.

After Crossing the water to the province of Prince Edward Island we'll stop in on Molytail as she says, "Meow" and tells us about a series of books that have really sparked her daughter's interest in reading.

As we have no invitations to visit in either Nova Scotia or Newfoundland and Labrador this time around, or anywhere else either, that brings us to the end of our trip. Thank you to those of you that took the time to send in submissions. Without you there wouldn't have been a trip this week. Thank you to those of you that came along for the trip. Welcome to the 23rd edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival! Grab your notebook and camera and lets get on our way.

We're going to start this trip in the beautiful province of British Columbia where our first stop will be to visit with Miranda as she talks about using Google Calendar to organize her schedule in "The colour of our week."

Next we'll pop in for a visit with Rosina, also in British Columbia, as, on her homeschool blog, she tells us about their recent Fun Mixing Primary Colors. Then on her nature blog she shares about an online resource she found for Green Books for Green Living.

Before we leave British Columbia we'll drop in on Cheryl as she talks about Back to School Madness and shares how she's learning to find balance between homeschooling and time for herself.

Crossing the border into the province of Alberta we'll pop in for a visit with Pam as she shares her report of Days 9 and 10 of the school year and talks about the benefits of participating in Mug Up.

After that we'll cross over into the province of Saskatchewan and drop in on Julia as, inspired by National Awareness Week for Invisible Illness, she shares her thoughts on Invisible Illnesses.

Crossing the border into the province of Manitoba we'll stop in for a visit with Audrey as she tells us she's been recording Observations and correlations to try to determine what the factors are in her son's attitudes and behaviours.

Entering the province of Ontario, our first stop will be to visit with Alex as she shows us A little bit of art they created inspired by the Jim Arnosky books they've been reading.

Next, also in Ontario, we'll pop in on Debbie as she says "And here it is" while she shows us the materials she recently received for her daughter's ILC courses.

Before we leave Ontario we'll stop in to visit with Heather as she tells us the Group of Four paints again, with watercolours this time, as an artist friend inspires them.

After that we'll cross the border into Quebec and stop in to visit Tonia as she shares A Typical "School" day for a Homeschooled Preschooler.

Crossing the border into New Brunswick we'll we'll stop in on Lorraine as she shares about some interesting Canadian magazines, and others, that make great learning resources in "Yes! Know! our Fall '08 Magazine Roundup".

Unfortunately we don't have any visits in Prince Edward Island this time around. We really hate skipping this beautiful province. If you are a homeschooling blogging family on the island we would really love to be able to visit with you next time.

Arriving in the province of Nova Scotia we'll drop in on Dawn as she says "How Sweet, I Think." as she shows us a drawing of her that her daughter recently made as part of her art work for french.

Our last stop in our country is with me in the province Newfoundland and Labrador while I ask Wanna trade Candidate cards with us?.

Next we'll take a plane trip to Guam where we'll visit with Colleen as she shares some Guam folklore in her post My Little Mermaid.

Welcome to the 22nd edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival! I am extremely excited about this trip because it is our first complete cross country trip, making a visit in each and every province - and beyond! Let's get started!

We're going to start this trip at my place in Newfoundland and Labrador again as I give you a Reminder and update. During our election study DD and I were reminded of how important it is to check your sources. Also, I'm happy to say that the Student Vote program is homeschool friendly so be sure to take advantage of it.

Next we'll take the ferry to Nova Scotia where we'll visit with Dawn as she says, "It Almost Had Me... Curriculum is a sneaky, evil beast."

After that we'll take another ferry into Prince Edward Island where Molytail jokingly says "It's the end of the world as we know it..." and tells us about a neat editible learning activity she and her daughter did recently.

I think we'll take the Confederation bridge off the island and head into New Brunswick for a first time visit with Lorraine while she shares with us about how Smudging, Powwows and Animal Speak are influencing their learning.

Before we leave New Brunswick we'll drop in on BJ as she shares How It's Going so far and asks us to share with her too.

Next we had to Quebec for our first ever visit in the province as we stop for a first time visit with Tonia as she tells us about her Geography plans for Kindergarten.

Crossing the border, we'll stop in to visit with Phyllis in Ontario as she shares with us her Week 1 School Report.

After that we head into Manitoba for a visit with Giselle as she invites us to check out some resources she's discovered and talks about the importance of Jr/High School Students and Art.

Next we'll head into Saskatchewan for a first time visit with Susan as she shares what she's learned about Narration and Autism

Crossing the border into Alberta we'll drop in on Pam while she tells us about Day 2 of their school year.

After that we'll head into British Columbia where our first stop is for a first time visit with Jennifer as she tells us that she has a box where she stores vocabulary and sight words for review with her son and she shows us how she's decorated the box to hold Trevor's Words.

Before we leave British Columbia we'll pop in to visit Rosina as she shows us, step by step, a really neat bookmark her son made for Unplugged Project - Soft (Felt Bookmarks).

That's the end of our cross country trip, but we have a special addition to this trip. We're going to travel to Guam to visit with fellow Canadian Homeschooler Colleen as she compares where she used to live to where she is living now - Powell River Vs. Guam.

And that's the end of this trip across our country, and across our world, visiting with homeschoolers along the way. Thank you to each of you that allowed us to visit, and thank you to each of you that came along for the trip. While there weren't many people that participated in the polls last week, the ones that did liked the idea of including blogs of Canadian homeschooling students and graduates in our weekly trips. In order to protect the children I will not include their blogs without encouraging them to get permission from their parents to do so.

Welcome to the 21st edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival! Let's get started!

We're going to start this trip at my house in Newfoundland and Labrador as I explain to you why I'm so excited that It's Federal Election Time!. We are using the election as part of our learning over the next while and I share resources and ideas we are using.

Unfortunately we didn't get any invitations to visit in Prince Edward Island or Nova Scotia this time around so we'll quickly skip over those provinces to get to the next province.

In New Brunswick we'll stop for a first time visit with BJ as she shares her assignment for Homeschool Memoirs - Agendas.

Unfortunately we still don't have any homeschooling families to visit in Quebec, and it's really a shame because I know there are many, many great families homeschooling in Quebec. Hopefully someone will invite us to visit soon, but for now we have to skip over this beautiful province.

Our first stop in Ontario is a first time visit with Debbie as she tells us about An annual journey her family makes and shares pictures of parts of the journey this year.

Next we'll pop in and visit Phyllis, also in Ontario, as she shares her Grade 9 Plan for her highschooler.

Our last stop in Ontario is with Heather as she tells us about a card game she made up to give her daughter practice in her Doubling up - math facts.

Next we're off to Manitoba for a first time visit with Giselle, co-ordinator for the HSN's Manitoba blog, as she encourages us to Take a "Back to School" Photo and shares links to some sites with photography tips.

Leaving there we'll travel into Saskatchewan and stop in for a visit with Julia as she shares about the fun Math Day her family enjoyed with some other homeschoolers recently.

After that we'll pop over to Alberta and drop in on Lori as she tells us they had A good first day back!.

Our last stop is to visit with Miranda in British Columbia as she tells us Math is on again and proceeds to tell us what each of her children are doing for math right now.

And that's the end of this trip across our country visiting with home educating families along the way. As you will have noticed I didn't post a Canadian Home Educators Abroad trip this week. So far I only have one blogging Canadian Home Educator living abroad to feature, so I'm debating whether to make a separate trip for that or to just include it at the end of our cross Canada trip, at least until we get a few more bloggers to feature. What are your thoughts? I'll put up a poll so that you can let me know. You're also welcome to leave a comment about it.

I had another idea this week that I'd like your thoughts on. I know that there are some Canadian Home Educating students and graduates that blog. I was thinking it would be neat to feature them also, either by giving them their own special trip on another day or by including them in the present weekly trip. I'd love to know your thoughts on that also.

Welcome to the 20th edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival! I apologize for being so late in posting this but school started here today and school and family must come first. I know you all will understand that. :)

We're going to start this trip in Bristish Columbia where Rosina first of all suggests that we check out the Buy/Sell List For Canadian BJU Homesat Users that she posted about on the HSN Blog she is co-ordinator for. After that she invites us to check out "Our Homeschool Agenda - HM Assignment #2. Before we leave her place she also shares what her family did for the Unplugged Project - Insect (Habitat).

Next we're off to Alberta to visit with Heather while she tells us the story of the The Curse of the Washing Machine. If you check her next few posts you'll hear even more of the story.

After that we're off to Saskatchewan to visit with Julia as she tells us that she is trying out A Loop Schedule. Sounds interesting.

No visits in Manitoba this time around so we'll continue on to the next province.

Our first stop in Ontario is a first time visit with Ann as she shares ideas on How to Daily Feed A Brain (links for life-long learners). Lots of great links to check out there!

Next we'll stop in for another first time visit with Phyllis, also in Ontario, as she shows us her School Room. Looks like she's all ready for the coming year.

Before we leave Ontario we'll stop in to visit with Kim as she tells us she's Starting the Schoolyear Right by participating in the local fall fair. I think that is such a great idea!

Unfortunately we don't have any visits in Quebec or New Brunswick this time around so we'll skip over those provinces to get to our next stop.

In Nova Scotia we'll stop in on Penelope as she tells us that her kids seem to be doing just fine with her preparations for School, or lack of it.

Next up we'll drop in to visit with Molytail in Prince Edward Island as she asks us "Whats 5 feet tall & bright pink"? Why it's the locker she's set up in her daughter's room so that she doesn't miss out on having a school locker. :-) Such a neat idea!

We didn't get any other invitations to visit in Newfoundland and Labrador this time around so you're stuck with visiting with me at my place while I share with you what I did for Homeschool Memoirs #1 - All About Me.

This is just a suggestion, however, not a stipulation. We'd love to come visit you even if you don't have an "All About Me" post to share.

Welcome to the 19th edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival. The trip is not as full this week as I would like for a few reasons - I didn't get many submissions, life has been crazy around here which means I didn't get very much time to scout out submissions, and my computer has been acting up. Soooo...without further ado here is the 19th edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival

We'll start this trip in Newfoundland and Labrador at my house as I tell you about a couple of places to go if you're Looking for ideas on what to blog about. I'm hoping it will inspire more posts from everyone and that in turn will mean more invitations to visit for the carnival. :)

Next we're off to Nova Scotia to visit with Dawn as she exclaims "History Doesn't Get Much Cooler Then This..." while telling us about the History Canada Game, a special Canadian version for the Civilizations computer game.

After a fair bit of traveling we'll finally stop in and visit with Alex in Ontario as she tells us she's been taking advantage of time to get school plans in place This past week....

Next we're off to Saskatchewan to visit with Julia as she tells us she's looking forward to a A Promising Year as they've ironed out the activities they will be involved in this coming year.

Crossing the border into Alberta, we'll drop in on Heather as she talks about The Many Faces of August that keep vying for her attention.

Our last stop for this trip is in British Ccolumbia. First of all Rosina tells us about the fun they had with the Unplugged Project ~ Cylinder (Pencil Game). Before we leave she invites us to check in to the British Columbia HSN blog where she's written an excellent post on Homeschooling in British Columbia ~ How to get started & Registering vs. Enroling.

I'd also like to thank those of you that have reponded to my request for information about your experience with homeschooling regulations and funding in the different provinces. The original due date for the article has been extended so that I have more time to gather information so you still have plenty of time to participate in the research. I'd love to hear from as many as possible. It has been quite interesting to read about the different experiences. I am considering setting up a special page, or post, of links to blog posts about the topic, though most of the responses I've received so far have been through email rather than blog posts. Any thoughts on this?

Tours for Canadian Homeschoolers Abroad??

I just found a great blog by a Canadian homeschooler that is presently living in another country, not Canada, and I got to thinking that I'd like a way to feature Canadian homeschoolers that are living abroad. As always, I like like to hear what my readers and participants think of the idea.

I'm thinking that rather than include them in the weekly tour across Canada, that gets posted each Tuesday, I would do another weekly, or maybe monthly, tour across the world visiting with Canadians that are homeschooling while living elsewhere, but I'd post this tour on another day of the week.

Welcome to the 18th edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival.

We're going to start this trip in British Columbia as we visit with Rosina again. She shows us a couple of great prizes as she shouts "Let the Blog-a-versary Giveaway Begin :). Before we leave she also invites us to check out the very creative projects her children made for Unplugged Project - Trees.

Next we're off to Alberta for a first time visit with Becky as shes shows us her china cabinet and calls it Our School Cupboard.

After that we'll drop in to visit with Julia in Saskatchewan where she tells us about the struggles she's had in the past in working out a routine that works for them and how this year it may again take a while to get into a routine as, for the first time, she will be Teaching Three.

Our next stop is in Ontario with Kim as she tells us that she is planning a back to school party because it is Time to Celebrate.

After that we're off to Quebec for our visit at a homeschooling organization as we are invited to check out the Association quebecoise pour l'education a domicile (Quebec Association for Home-based Education). Our tour guide tells us "L’Association québécoise pour l'éducation à domicile (AQED) a été fondée en 1997. Ses objectifs sont de:

Welcome to the 17th Edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival!

We'll start this trip in British Columbia with Rosina as she tells us what she did for the Unplugged Project - Hot (Stencil Painted Tshirt). Who knew you could make such cool t-shirts with just butcher paper, an iron, and paint? I'm thinking it would be really neat to design a homeschool logo and put it on t-shirts for everyone in the family. If anyone decides to try this, we'd love to see what you do.

Next we're off to Alberta to visit with Lori as she tells us its 4 weeks and counting to the beginning of the school year for her. She has decided her new mantra for this year is "Simple but Special" and asks us to stay tuned. I can't wait to see what she comes up with.

Moving into Saskatchewan we'll stop in with Julia as she talks about how much she enjoys her children being able to enjoy the freedom and open space around them while Living in the Country.

Our next stop is in Ontario where Annie tells us about the excitement of Box Day! at her house. It's the day they celebrated the arrival of their box of curriculum for the year.

Our last stop this trip is in Nova Scotia where Dawn shows us a very clear example of Why They Shouldn't do Their Work in Front of a TV.

16th Edition!

Welcome to the 16th edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival. Let's get started on our trip!

We're going to start the trip this week at my place in Newfoundland and Labrador. Though I haven't really done anything about it yet, my mind has been starting to go towards getting ready for the new "school year" and I recently found some posts with great tips about establishing and writing daily Routines. I'm hoping to put some of these to use soon.

Next we'll pop over for a visit with Penelope in Nova Scotia. She, too, has been thinking about Organization and back in the early part of July she said she was "planning to take on organizing as a leisurely summer project". That doesn't sound much like a leisurely summer project to me and I'd love to know how she is making out with the project. Maybe we'll find out on another visit.

We have a bit of traveling to do to get to our next stop in Ontario with Alex where she is Preparing for 2008-2009 ~ Math. She tells us how she's finally ready to admit that what is considered a tried and true homeschool resource is just not working in their family, but she has come up with some possible alternatives that may work.

Once again after traveling a little distance, we'll pop in to visit with Julia in Saskatchewan, where she, too, is thinking about The Dreaded P Word: Planning. She thinks she's finally come up with a plan that will work, but asks us to stay tuned to see if she still feels that way in January.

Next we'll stop in on Lori in Alberta as she tells us about something that has worked really well for her in the past and answers the question What is Tuesday Teatime? Blog Response. She definitely makes it sound like something worth trying out.

Before we leave Alberta we'll drop in on Heather as she tells us that through Knotted Stomach, Pounding Boots she learned a lesson about working together for a common goal. I just love reading about her band adventures and all that she learns through them.

Our last stop is in British Columbia to visit with the ever entertaining Rosina. First she shares with us her Hidden Veggie Jello Melons ~ Recipe which she uses to sneak veggies to her veggie hating kids. Sneaky! Then she shows us the really neat owls they made for Unplugged Project - Rough (Pinecone Art). I don't know about you, but I always wonder what wonders await us when we get to Rosina's.

And that ends this edition of the carnvial. I sure hope you enjoyed the trip and I hope you take the time to let your hosts know that you enjoyed the visit to their place by leaving them a comment saying so.

Some exciting news! Homeschooling Horizons Magazine has asked me to put together a monthly sideshow of the carnival for their magazine. The first one is to be published in their September issue, so be sure to watch for it. I emailed past participants about permission to feature them in it a while back. If you have joined the carnival since then this may be new news to you. If you have any questions about it, email or leave a comment below.

If all goes well the next edition of the carnival will be posted on August 12. To help me out be sure to send in your submission before then.

15th Edition

Welcome to the 15th edition of the Canadian Home Eudcators Blog Carnival. Once again I apologize for being late posting. I debated posting at all this week but I couldn't get away from the idea that I needed to, even if I am a day late. :) We have an even shorter trip this week than last. Our only invitations to visit this week came from Rosina in British Columbia and she has three things, on three different blogs she maintains, for us to check out. Here's what she has to say:

I know that everyone is busy these days and that probably accounts for how slow things have been. I know I've been busy myself and I haven't blogged on my personal blog for a long time. Hopefully things will pick up soon. In the meantime I am thinking of possible ways to help make things better and I may post about it in the near future. I'm always open to suggestions so please either write them in the comments or send me an email.

If all goes well the next edition of the carnival will be posted August 5. Please get your submissions in before then.

14th Edition

Welcome to the 14th edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival. Sorry I'm a little late posting. Yesterday was DH's birthday and I was busy all day arranging a surprise party for him and I spent today cleaning up and recovering from all the hard work. :) I think everybody must be out and about enjoying their summer, rather than spending time on their computers. I know I've been too busy to go searching out submissions. We only have two invitations to visit to this time around, way over in the western provinces. Let's get started!

First we'll drop in with Rosina in British Columbia as she tell us about her recent close encounters with bears and shows us her version of Bear Bangers ... Nice but not manditory :). She always has the most interesting things happening at her place!

Next in Alberta we'll pop in on Lori as she expounds the praises of Bravewriter Blog ... again. This is a homeschool help that she's really found helpful and she encourages everyone to check it out.

And that's it for this trip! A short, but sweet trip. :)

Welcome to the 13th Edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival! Once again I was wondering if there was going to be a carnival this week as the submissions were slow coming in, but we do have some inviations to visit so let's get started!

We'll start this trip in Bristish Columbia and drop in for a visit with Rosina as she tells us about the stepping stones she and her children made for the Unplugged Project - Stone.

Unfortunately we didn't get any invitations to visit in Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba this time around so we'll pass quickly over them into the next province.

In Ontario we'll pop in for a first time visit with Renee as tells us about A Summer Photo Challenge. She's challenging us to carry our camera with us and snap pictures of "scenes from a summer's day" for the months of July and August and share them on our blog. If you like snapping pictures, check out her blog for details!

Still no invitations to visit in Quebec so we'll skip over that province.

In New Brunswick a last minute invitation came in to drop in and visit with Andrea as she shares about Emma at 7.5 - Learning Notes. While we're there she also invites us to check out Emma's update By Emma.

No invitations to visit in Prince Edward Island this time around so we'll quickly pass it by and move into the next province.

In Nova Scotia we'll drop in on Dawn as she tells us about One Simple Activity, Lots of Rewards,including lots of discusion, the pride of making something with your own hands, and making a difference in someone's world.

Next we're off to Newfoundland and Labrador for our last visit on this trip. We'll pop in and visit with Linda as she exclaims "The Whales are Here!".

And that ends the 12th edition of the Canadian Homeschooling Blog Carnival. Thank you to those of you that invited us to visit. Also, thank you to those of you that came along for the trip. Be sure to take a minute to let the hosts know that you visited and that you appreciated the invitation.

Calling all Canadian Based Homeschool Associations, Support Groups, Suppliers, Boards, and Communities

To help raise awareness of Canadian based homeschooling resources, there is now a new side bar feature specifically for Canadian based homeschool associations, support groups, suppliers, boards, and communities that have an internet presence. This feature is like the sidebar feature listing personal bloggers. The sites are listed under the province they are based in, except that associations and groups with a nationwide membership will be listed under a nation wide category.

If you are an official of a Canadian based homeschool association, support group, supply/resource store, board, or community that has an internet presence, you are invited to submit your site to be included in the listing, whether you have a blog or not. There is no cost for this. Simply send an email to canadianhomeeducatorscarnival@gmail.com. Be sure to include in the email the name you'd like in the side bar, the address to the site you'd like linked, and a short paragraph of information about your group or site. If you have a blog you are welcome to submit blog posts to any edition of the carnival. This is a great way to get word out about any news happening in your store, board, or community.

Next we'll pop in for a first time visit with Annie as she says "Happy 4th of July" and shares some of her favorite American based links.

Then we're off for another first time visit, this time with Alex as she tells us "What I have learned about homeschooling in 13 words or less..."

No invitations to visit in Manitoba this time around so we'll quickly skip over that province.

Our next stop is with Julia in Saskatchewan as she shares some of her favorite American Links.

Next we're off to Alberta to visit with Lori as she makes some excellent points about why taking the time to read and research homeschooling ideas and methods is so important at each stage of homeschooling. She shares her Mom's Summer Reading Program and asks for suggestions of other books to add to her list.

Our last stop is to visit with Rosina in British Columbia. First Rosina serves us some jello cloud parfait which she created for the Unplugged Project ~ Sky. Next she shows us great pictures of the New Butterflies - Beautiful Metamorphosis.

Also, thank you to those of you that participated in the poll posted on the blog this week. There were way more people that checked out the blog than that participated in the poll but I do greatly appreciate those of you that did take the time to participate. Everyone that participated liked the idea of the list of Canadian homeschool Associations and Support groups, and the majority also liked the idea of the list of Canadian based suppliers so I will be working on these things, and asking for your help, in the coming days.

You have probably noticed that I have provided a french translation of this edition of the carnival. A week or so ago I was reminded of the fact that Canada is a country with two official languages, and while english is the official Canadian language that I am most comfortable with, it is not the official Canadian language that all Canadians are most comfortable with. The purpose of this blog is to bring together home educating families in Canada, no matter which of the two official Canadian languages they are most comfortable with, so I think it is only right that people be able to enjoy the postings in which ever of the two official languages they are most comfortable in. I am still working out how to make this possible. I am not at all fluent in french and I have to depend on online translation tools to help me. These tool are far from perfect but they are a help. I would love to know your thoughts on this. Please either email or leave a comment below.

Parce que nous n'avons pas d'invitations à se rendre dans les deux Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador ou Prince Edward Island cette fois nous allons passer au cours de ces deux provinces.

En ce qui concerne l'Ontario, nous avons trois lieux à visiter.

Une semaine ou il ya je me suis rappelé du fait que le Canada est un pays avec deux langues officielles, et tout en Anglais est la langue officielle du Canada que je suis le plus à l'aise, ce n'est pas la langue officielle du Canada que tous les Canadiens sont plus à l'aise avec . Le but de ce blog est de réunir des familles d'accueil de l'éducation au Canada, peu importe lequel des deux langues officielles du Canada, ils sont le plus à l'aise avec, je pense qu'il est juste que les gens puissent jouir des messages dans lesquels jamais de la deux langues officielles sont le plus à l'aise po je suis toujours les moyens pour ce faire. Je ne suis pas du tout parle couramment le français et je dois dépendre sur des outils de traduction en ligne pour m'aider. Ces outils sont loin d'être parfait, mais ils sont une aide. Possible new sidebar features - your thoughts?

I have been thinking about adding a couple of new features to the sidebar of the blog, much like the feature listing personal blogs featured in the past. You can let me know your thoughts by participating in the poll in the sidebar and/or leaving a comment at the end of this post. I will not add the features unless the majority of readers think it would be beneficial.

One of these features would be a list of Canadian based Homeschool Associations and support groups that have some sort of internet presence, sorted according to the province they serve, with an additional category for nationwide groups.

The other feature would be a list of Canadian based suppliers and curriculum representatives that have some sort of internet presence, sorted according to the province they are based in.

In order to be listed in either of these features, an official of the group or business would have to submit a paragraph about the group or business, including a link to their internet site or page. This pargraph would be posted in an edition of the carnival and then the group or business web address would be added to the sidebar feature. No group or business would be added without their approval.

What do you think? Beneficial or a waste of time and space? Thoughts, questions, comments?

11th Edition!

Happy Canada Day! Welcome to the 11th Edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival.

We're going to start this trip in Newfoundland and Labrador.

While stopping in for a visit with me, Jacqueline, I'll share with you that July 1st in Newfoundland is A day of remembrances and celebrations with a strange mixture of emotions and activities.

Unfortunately we didn't get any invitations to visit in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, or Quebec this time around so we have to take a long trip over those provinces to get to our next stop.

We have a couple of stops to make in Ontario.

First we'll drop in on Jackie as she talks about how she thinks where she lives is Not Canadian Enough and how she's looking forward to studying Canadian History and Geography.

Next we'll stop in for a first time visit with Heather as she tells us she is busy with Last minute details preparing for an exciting trip to China where her girls are performing with the Stellae Boreales, an advancesd performance group of the National Capital Suzuki Music School. She also gives us the link to the group's web page so that we can follow their trip.

Unfortunately there are no invitations to visit in Manitoba or Saskatchewan this time round so we'll quickly zoom over those provinces on to the next one.

We have two invitations to visit in Alberta.

First we'll pop in for a visit with Heather while she predicts the Death of the Job Hunt while reminiscing about her job hunting compared with her DD's recent experience in obtaining her first job. She also gives an interesting job description of the job most of us have taken on.

Next we'll stop in on Lori as she exclaims "My favorite day of the year!", the day the pool is filled, because it signals the beginning of the relaxing days of summer.

Next we're off to British Columbia to visit with Rosina. First up she shares
her easy, yummy sounding Fruitsicle Recipe. Then, she shares from Nature's Recipe Box - Strawberry Rhubarb Jam made without any artificial pectin.

10th Edition!

Welcome to the 10th Edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival. Once again the submissions started rolling in at the deadline, so we do actually have some visits to make. :)

Starting in the west again we'll drop in and visit with Rosina, in British Columbia, as she explains about her family's Nature Project - Seashell Music Makers. She shares step by step instructions with pictures and a video at the end showing what they sound like. She always does the neatest things!

Next up we have two stops to make in Alberta.

First we'll visit with Heather, who claims to not be a gardener, as she shows us beautiful pictures she took of her Lilacs and Butterflies.

After that we'll stop in for a visit with Lori as she exclaims Ahhhh! I'm finally feeling better! and then proceeds to tell us some of the things she's planning for the summer and the new year. Sounds like she's going to be busy!

Next we'll stop in Saskatchewan to visit with Julia as she tells us she likes Thinking Outside of the Box and thinking critically about rules, unlike the owner of the mini golf course they recently visited.

No invitations to visit in Manitoba this time so we'll skip right over to the next province.

In Ontario we'll drop in for a first time visit with Kim, who exclaims What a Week! as she shows us pictures and tells us about their end-of-school trip. Sure sounds like fun!

Unfortunately we have no invitations to visit in Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, or Prince Edward Island this time around. I guess everybody is too busy enjoying the start of summer, so we'll skip over those provinces and move on to the last one.

We have two invitations to visit in Newfoundland this time.

First we'll stop in and visit with Linda as she shows us pictures and tells us about her Visitors from B.C. -- West meets East!!!. A homeschooling family from BC is on their "Ultimate Canadian Geography Field trip" and they dropped in to visit with Linda and her family.

Our last visit is with Carla as she tells us it's been too cold for the flowers to bloom in her garden yet this year but "I thought I'd share a few photos of My Garden" and shows us beautiful pictures she took of her garden last year.

9th Edition

Welcome to the 9th Edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival. We have a very short trip today, with visits in only two provinces. Up until just before bed time last night I didn't think there was going to be an edition to post today, as I hadn't received any submissions up to that point and I didn't have time to go looking for any, so in my head I was planning a postponement post. However, one submission showed up in my inbox before I headed to bed and two more were there this morning. So, let's hit the road!

First we'll drop in on Lori in Alberta as she declares "I love summer!" as she tells us she just returned from her homeschooling group's first annual camp out and she's already started her summertime reflection on the past year.

Next we're off to British Columbia where we have three stops to make.

First we'll pop in for a visit with Cheryl as she tells us about where homeschooling happens in her house by sharing a Friday Meme: Where Do You Homeschool? that she participated in a while back.

Next we'll drop in on Rosina as she tells us she was lucky enough to catch one of their baby robin's first flights on camera and she shows us a Video of 'Fledgling' Leaving the Nest. It has been really neat following the growth and development of the robins.
While we're at her place, Rosina invites us to check out the British Columbia Homeschool Nations blog where she gives us ideas on How to avoid Summer 'Brain Drain' as she shares about a Canadian workbook series she uses with her children and also gives information about summer library programs.

8th Edition

Welcome to the 8th edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival! This time of the year marks the end of formal schooling for many people, including some homeschoolers. Every homeschool is different, however, and on this trip we get a glimpse of what's happening in different homeschooling families across our country at this time of year.

Our first two stops are in British Columbia.

We'll start by dropping in on Rosina as she tells us Our Baby Robin's Eyes are Open & Emergency Care for Orphaned Baby Birds. It's really fun watching these little guys grow.

Next up at Miranda's, while showing us a picture of one of her children hanging upside down, Miranda shares about Our upside-down school year..... Rather rather wrapping things up, they're just getting going.

No invitations to visit in Alberta this time around so we're off to the next province.

In Saskatchewan we stop to visit with Julia while she tells us The Trend Continues - as she describes what happens during the summer portion of their school year.

No invitations to visit in Manitoba, Ontario or Quebec this trip so we skip over these provinces heading to our next stop.

In New Brunswick we stop to visit with Andrea, who's been really busy lately so we get to meet Sarah, One of Andrea's kids. Trying to entertain you!. Sarah, who has never been to school, recently "graduated" from homeschool and she tells us she got her first graphic design job and wrote her first standardized test and didn't find it too bad. Andrea thought it might be nice to meet Sarah because "other homeschoolers quite like to be reassured their kids won't turn out *too* weird. :D."

Next we'll visit with Dawn in Nova Scotia as she tells us about Faery's Tale Deluxe, a storytelling game book she's picked up and is hoping will spark some fun learning throughout the summer.

No invitations to visit Prince Edward Island this trip so we head right to the last stop.

In Newfoundland we drop in on Linda as she reflects on Another one gone... and shares about the end of year homeschooling ceremony the local homeschooling support group hosts.

7th Edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival

We have a coast to coast trip planned for today with stops in all but two of the provinces. Here we go!

Before we leave from my place in Newfoundland I want to share with you what I think are Two Great Resources - the internet and the library.

Next we head over to visit with Dawn in Nova Scotia as she shares with us An Inspiring Science Read that she recently discovered.

While we visit with Molytail in Prince Edward Island she tells us about two things she loves - Whiskers & Books. This crazy cat lady starts with telling us about a stray cat she's fallen in love with before sharing about a used books sale she was lucky enough to take advantage of, and how thrilled she was to see her girl choose so many books. Here's what she said in an email "Cindy started this year of hs'ing with almost a hatred for books - getting her to read was like pulling teeth.... that's why I'm so pleased with her choices of books - heck, I'm pleased with her choosing books PERIOD."

Up next we stop in for a first time visit with Carla in Ontario as she shares her thoughts on Justice and homeschooling and tells us "I hope that reading the parts of our history that don’t inspire us with heroic acts or noble deeds will help all of us grow in compassion and understanding. That is more important to me, in schooling my children, than the memorization of pertinent facts."

Our next stop is in Manitoba where we visit with Audrey, who introduces us to the idea of Educational Anarchy. Audrey is sporty an Educational Anarchist button spurred on by an American homeschool blogger's reaction to a statement by the California Teacher's Association.

Hoping over to Saskatchewan we visit with Julia as she tells us about A Geeky Kind of Excitement she recently experienced over a math curriculum.

In Alberta we've been invited for a first time visit with Lori, as she helps spread the news about our Canadian Blog Carnival and tells us about her favorite resource - Mug Up, "a weekly event that a group of us homeschoolers in the area have the privilege of attending."

Our last stop is to visit with Rosina in British Columbia and she has a couple of things to share with us.
First, on the HSN blog for British Columbia, she exclaims, "This could be the greatest Toy/Education Store Ever!"as she tells us about "a really great educational supply store that is on Vancouver Island that is a 'must see'. "
Next on her nature blog she tells us "Our Baby Robins Have Hatched!!!" and she shows us some great pictures of the little creatures.

6th Edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival

We have an exciting trip planned for today with very interesting visits. Let's get started!

We'll start in British Columbia and drop in to visit with Rosina as she excitedly proclaims "Our Butterfly Larvae Arrived" and proceeds to show us everything that came in the package. How exciting!

Next we're off to Alberta for our first visit with actual homeschoolers there! I'm so excited!

First we'll stop in and visit Jennifer, a new comer to the carnival and homeschooling, as she tells us about the regulations and funding available in her province, but that for her there's No Funding This Year, Homeschooling in Alberta as she waits for her oldest to be old enough to be eligible for it.

Before we leave Alberta we'll pop over to visit with Heather, another new comer to the carnival, though not to homeschooling, as she tells us It Was a Winderful Day with lots of challenges recently during an outdoor performance of the military band she and her husband enjoy being members of.

Next we're off to Saskatchewan to visit with Julia as she tell us she sometimes suffers An Identity Crisis as she is reminded of all the things she is not good at, but she's decided not to concentrate on that but to focus on the things that do bring her enjoyment, even if they may sound boring to others.

We skip over Manitoba this trip, as we didn't have any invitations to visit there, so our next stops are in Ontario where we've been invited for a repeat visit and a visit with a newcomer.

Our first stop in Ontario is with Jackie as she shares how she took a year off homeschooling to Get A Life and discovered she liked the life she had when she was homeschooling better, so she's back at it, but she still has a part time job and singing to juggle with her homeschooling.

Next we're off for a first visit with Janet, Homeschool mom of 12 and grandmother of 14, as she asks Don't you love it when a plan comes together? and shares how her faith is boosted by seeing God order the ordinary things of their day to work together.

Unfortunately we have no invitations from Quebec so we travel non stop through the province and head for New Brunswick, where we've been invited for the first time.

Our next stop is in New Brunsick for a first time visit with Andrea, self proclaimed "home educating work at home country frugal back to land kind of mom". Just one of the many things on this busy lady's plate is running homeschooljournal. She share with us "How I do it all and says a very flexible routine, a to-do list, not a master schedule, and everyone pulling together makes it possible. I like her philosophy!

No side trip to Prince Edward Island this time as we have no invitations there this trip. Maybe next time.

In Nova Scotia we drop in to visit with Dawn as she tells us "My Life...It's Homeschooling" and explains how homeschooling is so intertwined with her life that there seems to be no division even while participating in a community choir, doing a course, drawing, blogging, etc.

Next we're off to Newfoundland and Labrador for our last two visits.

First we'll stop in and visit Carla as she explains that she doesn't often get askedWhat do you do in your spare time?? because everyone can see she keeps quite busy with homeschooling 4 children and enjoying all the different things that interest her - scrapbooking, cake decorating, reading. cooking, baking, reading, gardening. She's one busy lady!

Our last visit is with Linda where she entices us with More Chocolate as she shows us lots of pictures of the wonderful creations she makes out of chocolate and tells how she learned to make chocolate and how working with chocolate fits so well into her day.

And that ends this edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival. Thank you to each of you that invited us to visit, and also to each of you that came along for the trip. I think I'll stay at Linda's for a while and enjoy some chocolate. Hopefully we'll see you all again next week for another trip across Canada as we visit with Homeschooling families along the way.

5th Edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival

Are you ready for our 5th trip across our country as we visit with home schooling families along the way? We have to do a bit of province hopping this time around as we didn't get invitations to visit in all provinces, but we'll still have some fun. Let's go!

We're going to leave from my house, Jacqueline, in Newfoundland and I'm going to share about the support groups I've had the privilege to be a part of, because We all need somebody to lean on.

Before we leave Newfoundland we'll drop in to visit with Linda as she shares with us that her about her Homeschooling Support and tells us that her biggest support came from the internet through online discussion groups.

Hopping over to Nova Scotia we'll drop in on Michelle as she shares her Thoughts on how her faith brings her through some rough times.

We'll stop in to visit with Dawn before we leave Nova Scotia as she tells us about My Homeschool Mentors and has a revelation while she shares with us! Check it out.

Next we'll hop over to Ontario and visit with Mama Squirrel as she tells us a story In which Crayons reaches the high-water mark of Year One and shares about some favorite books in Ambleside Online's Year One.

When we leave there we'll hop over to vist with Julia in Saskatchewan as she tells us about how her Homeschool Support locally seems to change each year, so she's thankful for the many different online support groups and blogs to carry her through.

Our next, and last hop, is into British Columbia to visit with Rosina where we'll check out A Robin's Nest her family has been enjoying watching. They discovered the nest in a hanging basket right outside their window and they have a perfect view of it and have great pictures to share.

I don't know about you, but I've really enjoyed this hop across the country, though it would have been nice to not have had to make such long hops without stops in some places. :)

Also thank you to each of you that participated in the poll last week. The majority of people liked the idea of the drop down menu and nobody was against it so I will be working on getting that in place this week.

I don't know if any of you noticed, but I've created a new graphic for the Carnival. I really didn't like the big old button that I first made so I've been anxious to change it. I finally got it all worked out today. If you had already added the button to your blog you don't need to worry about changing it because I worked it so that it automatically changed to the new one wherever the old one was posted.

The next edition of the carnival will be posted May 27th, with the deadline for submissions being May 26th. I will post a call, with a suggested theme tomorrow, so be watching for it and please help spread the word.

Call for Submissions for 5th Edition

Our next Canadian Home Educating Blog Carnival trip is planned for May 20th, with the deadline for submissions being May 19th, though I don't really know why I bother to set deadlines because the fact of the matter is that I will accept submissions right up to the time I post. The earlier I get them the easier it is on me to get the edition posted on time. I sure hope we get more invitations to visit with more Canadian home educators all across the province this time around.

As a kind of extension on the suggested theme for the last edition, this edition I'd like to hear more about the different support systems that are available for Canadian Home Educators. Tell us about your local support groups, if you have any, or about any online support systems that have helped you on your homeschooling journey. You may have already written a post about this. If so, send along a link to it. If not, maybe you will find the time in the next week to write a post and send in the link.

Once again, the suggested theme is simply that, a suggestion, not a limitation. if you'd rather send a post along a totally different line feel free to do so. We'd just like an invitation to visit with you for a while.

Please take the time to answer the poll in the side bar. I'd like to add a new feature to the side bar of this blog, like a feature that you can see in the side bar of the Canadian Scrappers Blog Carnival. You can check out what I'm talking about on that blog if you like. Basically I'd like to add drop down menus in the right hand side bar of the blog and list the blogs of the people that have participated in the Carnival sorted according to the province they are residing in. I will not add this feature unless it is something that the readers think is a good idea, and even if most of the readers do like the idea and it does get added, anyone that didn't want their blog listed would just have to let me know. I already had the poll up for a week but only had two people vote. I've decided to extend the poll for another week.

4th Edition of Canadian Home Educators Carnival

First of all, apologies for being a little late with this edition. Life has been crazy around here and I've been doing a fair bit of real life travel, from one side of our island to the other, and it's cut into my travel time on the internet. :) I also kept hoping that more submissions would come in, but I've finally decided to post this Island only edition. :)

We've only been invited to visit with island living Canadian homeschoolers this edition - two in Newfoundland and one in Prince Edward Island. This is our first invitation to visit PEI. Hopefully it won't be our last.

We'll start this trip with Linda in Newfoundland. She and her family are enjoying Nature's Traveling Art Gallery as they admire the icebergs that are passing by their house. I couldn't help but think about Linda when I was traveling from one end of the island to another and I kept an eye out for icebergs to tell her about.

Before we live the island we'll stop in at my place for a while and I'll tell you about My Homeschooling Mentors - two ladies that have played an important role in my homeschooling journey.

Next we hop over to another beautiful Canadian Island and visit with Molytail in PEI while she also tells us about her Homeschool Mentor who just so happens to live on an island half a world away from her.

And so ends our very short island trip in this edition of the Carnival. Thank you to Linda and Molytail for inviting us to visit.

Call for submissions for 4th Carnival

Since a little more than half of the responders to the poll last week said that they would like to see topics assigned for the editions of the carnival, an attempt will be made to do so. If anyone has ideas for possible topics for upcoming editions feel free to share them in either the comments or through email. I'd love some help in coming up with topics. Although topics will be suggested, you will not be limited to only sending posts on the topic suggested. The topics are simply to give people ideas on things to write about, not to limit what does get written about.

In light of upcoming Mother's Day my mind has been on Homeschooling Mothers or Mentors. Do you have a mentor or someone that encouraged or inspired you to began to home school, or someone that is inspiring or encouraging you to continue in your homeschooling? Why not write a post about it? Please, however, be respectful of people's privacy. Do not use a person's full name without asking permission to do so.

That brings up something else I've been meaning to address. I tend to use first names in the carnival. If you would rather I not use your name, but refer to you by a sort of "pen name" or just use your blog name, I am quite happy to oblige. Just let me know your preferences in your email with your submission.

Along the same lines, I have been organizing the submissions according to the province that the posters are residing it. I realize that some people value their privacy and that this may be a deterent to some people participating. If anyone would like to participate but would rather not have their residing province indicated I am again happy to oblige. Once again simply let me know your preferences in your email.

I will be posting a new poll shortly. I'd like to add a new feature to the side bar of this blog, like a feature that you can see in the side bar of the Canadian Scrappers Blog Carnival. You can check out what I'm talking about on that blog if you like. Basically I'd like to add drop down menus in the right hand side bar of the blog and list the blogs of the people that have participated in the Carnival sorted according to the province they are residing in. I will not add this feature unless it is something that the readers think is a good idea, and even if most of the readers do like the idea and it does get added, anyone that didn't want their blog listed would just have to let me know. The poll will be up for a week.

3rd Edition of the Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival

Welcome to the 3rd edition of the Canadian Canadian Home Educators Blog Carnival!

In our journey across the country this time around we have a number of places to visit on each end of the country and one lone place to visit in the middle of the country. Ready! Let's start the trip.

First we stop off in Newfoundland where we have three visits to make.

The Robinson Family share a gorgeous picture of a bird that they recently discovered is a Mourning Dove.

Linda's family moved to Newfoundland a few months back and she tells us about Making Friends - Jake Style. Her son sure blows the myth about homeschoolers lacking socialization skills.

This time around I am sharing a recent Fun Get Together homeschoolers in a part of Central Newfoundland had as we celebrated National Wildlife week.

Now we skip over to Nova Scotia where we have a couple of visits to make.

Betty suggests alternatives to Robert Munsch in her post Book Look.

Penelope shares some wonderful pictures and a write up about how her family celebrated Earth Day.

Next we make a short stop in Ontario to visit with MamaSquirrel. She tells us how You know you're a homeschooler when...they HAVE to hear the Real Thing instead of a shortened version of a classic.

This time around we didn't get any invitations to visit in the next few provinces so we fly right over them and head to British Columbia for our last three visits.

Miranda shares a wonderful post about how homeschooling allows her children to experience the Real World and use their musical talents to bring comfort to someone needing it.

Rosina invites us for a quick check in at two of her blogs. On the Huber Hof Academy homeschool blog she shares details, pictures, and video if their ongoing Chicken Mummy Experiment. At the Nature Notes from Above blog she tells about Butterfly Larvae and Free Butterfly Unit Study.

Cheryl shares her thoughts on a text they used to study Marine Biology and shows pictures of the neat project they made following the text's instructions to Make an Ocean Box during their studies.

And that brings an end to this edition's visit with home educators across our country. I don't know about you, but I really enjoy this little glimpse into the homeschooling lives of people all around the nation. Thank you to each of you that invited us to visit. Be sure to take a moment to let people know that you visited. It would even be neat to let them know what province you are in so that we can see where the different visitors are from.

I'd also like to thank those of you that have already partcipated in the polls I have posted on the blog. It is encouraging to know that others think this is a worthwhile venture.

I will be posting a new poll and a call for submissions for the next edition shortly, hopefully before the day is through. I'd love to hear from as many of you as possible.

If you are a Home Educator living in Canada I invite you to submit a post to the third Carnival of Canadian Home Educating Bloggers.

One of the purposes of this Carnival is to give a small glimpse into the varied lives of homeschooling families across Canada - a chance to see similarities and differences in home educating families across our country.

The deadline for submissions for the third edition of the Carnival is May 2. The Carnival will be posted here May 5.

Second Carnival of Canadian Home Educators

Thank you to those of you that took the time to submit a post to this edition of the Carnival of Canadian Home Educators. We have one return participant and three new participants.

Jackie's been around the block in education and she talks about a "life long love for learning" and Why Homeschooling is a Wise Educational Alternative. Her blog is a new venture. Be sure to visit and encourage her.

In her post Osmosis School, Audrey shows how her son is exhibiting that love for learning as he asks for an opportunity to "suck up" his schooling while he is having a sick day.

Dawn confesses to a problem that I think most of us experience when it comes to planning - going overboard, and then having nothing come of it. She's decided to combine some Restraint and Scheduling

On her family's nature blog, Jessica, a homeschooling preteen, shares some great pictures of a squirrel that visited their yard recently. I love the idea of a family nature blog where everyone has a turn to post.

Carla asks us to Look at these two as she catches a rare moment of peace and togetherness between two or her crew that are usually at odds with one another.

And there you have the second edition of the Carnival of Canadian Home Educators. While the submissions are few, they give you a small glimpse into the varied lives of homeschooling families across Canada. That's what I was hoping to accomplish with this Carnival - a chance to see similarities and differences in home educating families across our country.

It looks like the Carnival of Canadian Home Educators is going to be as hard a sell as the Dominion of Canada. :) Though I searched my sp*m folder diligently I didn't find any extra submissions this time around. I'm not ready to give up yet though, even if I am a little discouraged.

First Carnival of Canadian Home Educating Bloggers!

Welcome to the first Carnival of Canadian Home Educating Bloggers. Though we are off to a very meager beginning, it is a dream of mine that this Carnival will grow quickly over time. I know there are many, many Canadian Home Educating Bloggers out there and I'm hoping they will come together much faster than the 82 years it took for everyone to come together to form the nation of Canada. :)

Just like the confederation of Canada started off with representation from 4 provinces, so the Carnival of Canadian Home Educating Bloggers is starting off with representation from 4 provinces, but the represented provinces are a little more spread out in the Carnival than they were in the confederation. Also, though Newfoundland was the last province to join confederation, it is a representative of Newfoundland ( me :0) )that was the instigator of the Carnival of Canadian Home Educating Bloggers.

As my submission to this carnival I point you to a very short post of mine from a while back, where I shared a link to a post that resonated in my heart as I reflected on the fact that Motherhood is My Chosen Career.

Michelle, in Nova Scotia, was the first one to respond to my request for submissions. She shares some devotional thoughts about the important jobs of mothers and how our most important job is to work on having a right relationship with God so that we can help our children have a right relationship with God.

Julie in Saskatchewan, encourages us not to be fooled by bow ties as she shares how she discovered another side of Pierre Berton as she read his book The Secret World of Og with her children. I love the comment she made about his children knowing that side of him and it got me thinking about whether my children see a side of me that nobody else does.

Though not a homeschooling parent, Sarah, now residing in Alberta, has devoted much time to helping homeschooling students and parents, so for that reason I agreed to accept her submission to the carnival. She has put together some wonderful information for homeschoolers applying to university. Be prepared to spend much time on her site.

And there we have the first edition of the Carnival of Canadian Home Educating Bloggers. Spread the word and help us grow. Hopefully next time we will have more representations from other provinces and also more representations from the provinces already represented.

I will host the next Carnival in two weeks time so that will give everyone lots of time to submit a post. It can be a new post or an old one, doesn't matter. It can be short or long.

If you need inspiration on what to post, check out the lyrics of My Way, a song written by Canadian Paul Anka. State your case. Tell about your full life. Tell about your travels. Share your regrets. Tell about your planned, charted course, your careful steps. Tell about the times you bit off more than you could chew. Share about when you loved, laughed and cried. Tell about home educating your way.

Before closing my email program for the night I noticed that the sp*m folder was getting pretty full so I decided to delete it. Then I remembered that the last time I went to delete it I discovered that there was a message from my sister in there, so I decided I should check the messages before deleting them. Boy am I glad I did! There were 4 more submissions for the Carnival in there! Here they are:

Linda, in Newfoundland, tells about her son unschooling himself cartooning and shares some of his cartoons.

Penelope, in Nova Scotia, has a great post to remind us about the frustrations that are often experienced when we try to learn something new, and how important it is remember that in teaching our children and to teach them how to deal with frustrations.

Dawn, also in Nova Scotia, tells about how the lovely weather had her picking up butterfly nets for her children and how it reminds her of how she often picks up stuff with intentions that never get followed through. I think we can all relate to that.

Mama Squirrel, in Ontario, shares a funny from her squirrelings.

Carnival of Canadian Home Educating Bloggers

I love reading blogs written by fellow Canadian Home Educators so I decided to start a Carnival of Canadian Home Educating Bloggers.

If you are a Home Educator living in Canada I invite you to submit a post to the first Carnival of Canadian Home Educating Bloggers. I have decided not to assign a particular topic for this first Carnival. You can submit a post in the topic of your choosing.

The deadline for submissions is April 4 and the Carnival will be posted here on April 7.

Submit your posts to me (address removed). Please indicate in your email what part of Canada you are in as I am thinking about using a "Home Educating Across Canada" theme in organizing the links.

particular topic....There are many variations, but typically, someone who wants
to organize a carnival posts details of the theme or topic to their blog, and
asks readers to submit relevant articles for inclusion in an upcoming edition.
The host then collects links to these submissions, edits and annotates them

No, there is no size limit for submissions. The post you submit doesn't get posted in the Blog Carnival, just a short write-up of some sort about it and a link to the post so that people can visit your blog to read it.
